"Whitehall farce" as MoD outsourcing fails to attract new army recruits

MoD

Stewart McDonald MP, and SNP Spokesperson for Defence, has slammed the Ministry of Defence’s outsourcing policy after outsourcing company Capita only managed to bring in fewer than one in 10 of the recruits needed by the Army.

As 120 soldiers, who recently returned from operations overseas, marched by Parliament today, it was revealed that Capita failed to bring in 90 per cent of the recruits the army needs for 2018-19 in the first quarter.

The outsourcing company has held the contract for Army recruiting since 2012.

Stewart McDonald MP said:

‘’This is another MoD Whitehall farce, and yet again proves that the MoD’s outsourcing is not fit for purpose. It is another embarrassment on top of the current dispute over the contract that the MoD handed to Capita to run the Defence Fire and Rescue service, which has gone to court.

‘’The Government’s obsession with outsourcing clearly damages the potential of our armed forces, which is an insult to those brave soldiers that marched by Parliament today as part of their homecoming.

‘’The MoD has a massive budget black hole and all these deeply serious issues show it’s becoming clear that Gavin Williamson isn’t up to the task of being Defence Secretary.’’
