Southside MP seeks reprieve for Castlemilk Post Office

Stewart McDonad MP has called on the Post Office to retain services in Castlemilk after it was announced that the service within RS McColl at The Braes Shopping Centre would close.

The MP for Glasgow South has written to the Chief Executive of the Post Office asking him to urgently engage with the local community and explore ways to retain Post Office services in Castlemilk.

Commenting, the MP said:

"Losing such an essential service in a community that has high digital exclusion rates and many cases of isolation, would be a devastating blow to the quality of life of many of my constituents which cannot be overstated.

"The next nearest Post Office service in Tormusk, which is around 1.4 kilometres away, would be wholly unsuitable as Castlemilk’s sole Post Office service."

"The potential loss of the service has caused great anxiety and deep unease within the community, and I am appealing to the Post Office to retain the service in some form within the centre of Castlemilk."

Letter to Post Office Chief Executive, Nick Read:
