Southside groups celebrate big lottery win

An SNP MP has praised three local charities after they received over £20,000 worth of funding from Big Lottery Fund.

Stewart McDonald, MP for Glasgow South, has written to Fares4Free, Diversity Football Club and South Glasgow Division Senior Centre to congratulate them on the funding they have received as part of Big Lottery Fund Scotland and sportscotland’s Awards for All Scotland programme.

Diversity Football Club tackle issues of racism, social isolation and integration by bringing people together through football, Fares4Free encourage taxi drivers to provide free transport for veterans and South Glasgow Division Senior Centre enables Guides from across Southside units to attend a weekend outdoor activity holiday.

Commenting, Stewart McDonald said:

“I was delighted to hear Diversity Football Club, Fares4Free and South Glasgow Division Senior Centre were successful in receiving a bumper grant from the Lottery, and were from only a handful of groups across the whole of Scotland.

“These projects provide vital services for the local community and will bring local people together, help people learn, and get people more active.

“I congratulate each group on their funding, wish them every success with their project and I extend my thanks to Big Lottery Fund Scotland for recognising the valuable contribution they make to the Southside of Glasgow. All three groups have done themselves and Glasgow South proud."
