MP WELCOMES SHAWLANDS ARCADE INVESTMENT

An SNP MP has welcomed a commitment for new investment in the Shawlands Arcade shopping centre.

The 100,000 sq ft complex was sold earlier this year in a multimillion pound deal and new owners Clydebuild Limited Partnership have committed to investing in the renovation of the centre and adjacent office building.

The Arcade is home to a mixture of big name and independent retailers, along with community projects and charities, and local businesses based in the office building.

The move was welcomed by Stewart McDonald, MP for Glasgow South who said:

“This investment is a huge boost to Shawlands and the wider Southside. Shawlands Arcade has so much potential and I hope that this much needed renovation will help release some of that.

“I hope even more retailers and businesses will be attracted into the area, and that the renovation helps maintain the Southside as one of Glasgow’s most vibrant and attractive neighbourhoods in which to live and do business”
