MP supports call for increased commitment to Global Fund

Stewart McDonald, MP for Glasgow South, has written to the Secretary of State for International Development, Rory Stewart, calling on the UK Government to increase its financial contribution to the Global Fund.

The Global Fund is the principal international financing institution that aims to end the Malaria, AIDS and TB epidemics. To date, the Fund has helped lead to a one-third in deaths from the three diseases.

The MP has called on the UK Government to commit at least to £1.4 billion, which will help save more than 16 million lives and avert 234 million infections.

Many other donors have already stepped up and increased their contributions.

A strong Global Fund pledge is essential to delivering UK aid objectives, and support for the Fund is critical to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals' target, save millions more lives and end these three killer epidemics.
