MP and MSP to meet with Bank of Scotland after announcement of branch closures

Stewart McDonald MP and James Dornan MSP are to meet officials from the Bank of Scotland, following the announcement this week that local branches are to close across the country.

Following the announcement this week that Lloyds Banking Group would be closing seven Bank of Scotland branches and the confirmation that no community consultation has taken place, the SNP representatives are to meet with the bank to discuss the plans. Among the proposed closures is the Mount Florida branch in the Southside of Glasgow.

Meanwhile, in Parliament Stewart McDonald MP has demanded that the UK Government make time for a debate on bank closures without consultation with local communities.

Commenting, Stewart McDonald MP for Glasgow South said:

The decision this week by Lloyds to close branches in Scotland will affect thousands of people in my constituency. Those most dependent on physical banking services are older and vulnerable people, exactly the people who find it most difficult travel. The fact that customers were not even consulted shows a total disregard for their needs”

James Dornan, MSP for Cathcart added:

“The announcement of this closure comes just six months after another Bank of Scotland branch in the constituency was closed. At the time, Bank of Scotland said that the Mount Florida branch was there as an easy alternative for those affected. However with that one now going, I'm concerned that some of my constituents will now be forced to travel several miles to their nearest branch."
