Members of the House of Commons have come together to condemn the homophobic attacks in Orlando and offered full support to the LGBTI community.
Stewart McDonald, MP for Glasgow South, tabled an Early Day Motion condemning the attacks in Orlando, which has been supported by fellow SNP members across the House.
SNP politicians at Holyrood and Westminster will today join in vigils and other efforts to remember the fifty people who were killed, to stand up against homophobia and transphobia, and to stand up for LGBTI equality.
Commenting, Stewart McDonald said:
“Our thoughts are with the victims of this horrific attack, their friends and their families.
“The attack at Pulse nightclub in Orlando is the worst mass shooting in American history. However this wasn't an attack on one nightclub in one part of the world. This was an attack on a community of millions.
“This was about trying to force us to live quietly and in shame about being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. We cannot let that succeed.
“Even though the ostentatious flair of our community may be a little restrained as we think of those needlessly taken from us, our rainbow flag will still fly tomorrow. Our resilience will drive us to seek a world where no LGBT person lives in fear, because solidarity is stronger than fear.”
