Glasgow MP welcomes decision to pause demolition of historic Southside building

Glasgow South MP, Stewart McDonald, has welcomed Network Rail's decision to pause its plans to demolish the former Susie’s Store, which forms art of the old Strathbungo station, and urged the company to help explore options for possible use of the building.

Network Rail confirmed it would no longer imminently demolish the building on Nithsdale Road, which was set to go ahead despite local opposition and no consultation about the plans having been carried out.

The MP for Glasgow South had written to Network Rail voicing his concerns and had called on the company to halt demolition plans.

Stewart McDonlad MP for Glasgow South said:

"I was very concerned and alarmed to hear of Network Rail’s plans to demolish the former Susie’s Store on Nithsdale Road.

"I appreciate that the shop has been vacant now for some time but the building itself forms part of what was the former Strathbungo Station and, as such, has a rich history and affinity with the local community.

"I welcome this decision and now urge Network Rail to carry out a full and extensive consultation with all interested parties with an exploration of options for possible use of the building."

The MP's letter to Network Rail can be found here.
