Statement on Mileage Rates

Thank you for writing to me about an issue pertinent to so many across Scotland.

After a failed recovery from 2007, with fifteen years of declining real wages through Tory austerity, rampant inflation is scarring deep.

The cost of living crisis is hitting us in lots of small ways – and my SNP colleagues and I are doing all we can to help those most in need of it.

This issue is one that disproportionately affects Scotland, given Scotland’s greater rural population than England. I am happy to support this, and have signed Early Day Motion 464.

Levels of in work poverty are horrendous – it reflects on more than a decade of Tory austerity, unopposed by multiple Labour leaders, which have brought the UK here.

My SNP colleagues and I will raise mileage rates in future parliamentary debates when we can – this is just another way that the Tories and the UK are not working for Scotland.
