Royal Mail Service Point Closures

My SNP colleagues and I have a number of issues in the running of Royal Mail at present.

My colleague in Westminster Marion Fellows MP is the chair of the cross-party APPG on Postal services, and she continues to raise this and other matters to ensure we have postal services that work for everyone – not just for the bosses.

Royal Mail want to end the 6-day Universal Service Obligation. This is unacceptable, and would be a serious cut to services. This is not only an argument against the Tory/Lib Dem privatisation, but a reason we should be pushing for re-nationalisation. The UK Government must do better for communication workers.

Royal Mail’s workforce is heavily under-supported. Public Ownership would allow greater flexibility and we will continue to advocate for this change.

Royal Mail claim they cannot provide what they are legally mandated to at present. This is not acceptable – people in Scotland should not be facing cuts to services as a result of Tory-imposed austerity. Please be assured myself and my colleagues in the SNP will continue to push for the necessary changes to be made at Royal Mail so that people across Scotland can access adequate postal services.
