Replace Council Tax and Stamp Duty with the Proportional Property Tax
The SNP are scrapping Council Tax for under 22s, and SNP councils are committed to working to keep council tax bills as low as possible while protecting vital services.
Thanks to SNP action, council tax bills are already almost £600 lower than in England and Wales.
The SNP 2021 Manifesto promises to, in addition to scrapping council tax for under 22s and maintaining the council tax freeze, look at replacing it.
Specifically, the manifesto pledged that if re-elected your SNP Scottish Government will convene a Citizens Assembly to consider options for replacing the Council Tax as part of a look at strengthening local democracy. Proposals will be considered there by a group of people who are a representative cross-section of Scotland’s population
