The SNP completely reject this Bill which is an attack on devolution, workers rights', food standards, nature, animal welfare and our Scottish legal system.
The SNP tabled an amendment against the legislation at Second Reading on Tuesday 25th October 2022. This would have stopped the Bill proceeding as it is completely unfit in its current state.
During the Bill's Committee Stages in November 2022 our SNP lead on the Bill - Brendan O'Hara MP - tabled multiple amendments aiming to scrap reckless parts of the Bill, including the sunset clause and many amendments to protect existing Scottish law on the environment, food standards, as well as workers' rights. We were deeply disappointed that the Conservatives voted against all our amendments.
We are clear that this Bill simply cannot proceed as is, and must be scrapped.
This Bill is an ideological attack by extreme Tories on fundamental protections and the supremacy of EU law.
The SNP remain committed to aligning regulation in Scotland with EU regulation and re-joining the EU as an independent nation.
