Far Right Activism is on the Rise

I fully share your concerns around the rise in inflammatory rhetoric on the issue of migration and asylum, both in the media and in Parliament, and the very real risk that this poses.

The last year has seen notable incidents of violence outside asylum accommodation in the UK including the recent protests in Merseyside and the petrol bomb attack in Dover.

The Home Secretary in particular has a duty to recognise the importance of responsible rhetoric and the consequences that inflammatory language can have.

It has therefore been particularly disappointing and concerning to listen to some of the language she has chosen to deploy on this issue.

SNP MPs in Westminster will continue to call for responsible use of language on the issue of migration as well as calling for the Home Office to focus stop spending taxpayers’ money on damaging schemes like the Rwanda program and instead fund suitable and safe accommodation for asylum seekers across the UK.

The Home Office should also take steps to tackle the backlog and ensure people are not trapped for months or years in limbo, as well as ensuring that safe and legal routes are available for vulnerable people fleeing persecution to seek protection in the UK.
