Stewart McDonad MP has welcomed the Post Office's decision to retain services at its current location in Castlemilk after the previous service within RS McColl at The Braes Shopping Centre had closed.
The MP for Glasgow South had written to the Chief Executive of the Post Office asking him to urgently engage with the local community and explore ways to retain Post Office services in Castlemilk.
The Post Office have now confirmed that a new temporary branch will open on June 3rd in its current location, to replace the service that closes later this month, whilst a permanent solution is sought.
Commenting, the MP said:
"I welcome the decision to retain Castlemilk Post Office services in its current location, and look forward to a permanent solution being found.
"Losing such an essential service in a community that has high digital exclusion rates and many cases of isolation, would have been a devastating blow to the quality of life of many of my constituents which was not overstated.
"The retention of the service has eased great anxiety and is welcomed within the community, and I look forward to the Post Office finding a permanent solution within the centre of Castlemilk."
